Pre-requisites: there are no pre-requisites for this course. The RHS requires that you start with Unit 1 and then proceed to Unit 2, in that order.
The RHS Level 2 (Theory) Certificate course encompasses the fundamental scientific principles underlying horticultural practices and accesses how horticulture can benefit society for the betterment of all.
In this qualification, you’ll learn to develop a level of expertise in the function of plants and the importance of horticultural practices crucial to the horticultural industry.
You will also learn and understand the part horticulture can play in: protecting biodiversity – creating more sustainable practices – lowering our carbon footprint.
How Can This Course Help You?
By preparing you for entry to the horticultural industry if you are new to the profession or by expanding your current horticultural skills.
You’ll also gain from this course the following additional skills and knowledge in order to:
- Understand problem-solving skills

ASSESSMENT OUTCOMES – AOs
The NEW RHS qualifications, require each topic of the syllabus to be built around what is called ‘Assessment Outcomes’ (AOs) . These identify the way you explain your knowledge, understanding and skills of making connections between relevant topic areas, under test conditions.
The AOs use a ‘progressive mastery’ model for each topic area. There are three (3) broad categories of assessment outcomes as follows:
AO1 – knowledge recall: of scientific ideas, processes, techniques, procedures, and making correct use of terms, symbols and units of measurement.
AO2 – application of knowledge and understanding: of concepts, theories, facts to different situations and contexts through presentation of reasoned explanations and analysis and interpretation of information and ideas.
AO3 – application of knowledge and understanding: in an integrated and holistic way in order to reach conclusions and make judgements and recommendations
We will enter you for the most appropriate and practical two exam dates- one for each unit. For example, if you enrolled at the end of March you would not be entered for June, but rather the first exam being October, and then the second unit scheduled for February.
Sample assessments available. Please contact: support@adlhomestudy.co.uk for details.
